County Level Data Available from SCHS

The State Center for Health Statistics is committed to supplying Health Statistics which can inform state and county health policies and programs. Many of our annual publications contain statistics at the county level. In addition, we frequently generate special studies and reports which feature county-level estimates.

The North Carolina CATCH (Comprehensive Assessment for Tracking Community Health) system is a collaborative effort between the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and state and local public health agencies in the state. The system is designed to supply a wide array of health statistics by county for use in their Community Health Assessment process. The NC-CATCH "County Profiles" provide the public with easy assembly of a wide array of demographic and community health data, along with comparisons with peer counties and the state. In addition, the NC-CATCH "Indicator Fact Sheets" supply users with county-level trends in indicators over time, as well as breakdowns by race and ethnicity for many health measures.

One of the best resources for county level health statistics is our County Health Data Book. Published in conjunction with the Community Health Assessment Initiative, the State Center for Health Statistics began generating the County Health Data Book on an annual basis in 2002 (prior to this, the Data Book was not published every year). The County Data Book is created to provide communities with quantitative data to support community health assessments.

In addition, every other year, SCHS produces county-level graphs depicting trends in key health indicators over time.

Life Expectancy - State & County Estimates:

This new report presents life expectancies at the state level, for each age interval (1) in total, and by (2) gender, (3) race (white and African American), and (4) race by gender. At the county level, life expectancies are provided for each age interval (1) in total, and by (2) gender and (3) by race (white and African American).
