2003 County Health Data Book North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services The project staff of the North Carolina Community Health Assessment Initiative (NC-CHAI) created the County Health Data Book to provide communities with quantitative data to support community health assessments. The County Health Data Book includes a wide range of health-related county and state data. Data from the County Data Book are available here for download from the web. The Excel worksheets for each main area are contained in one Excel 97 workbook. Click on the links below to download the files to your computer. Some worksheets in each workbook contain more than one topic. In order to view some of the data, you will need Microsoft Excel or the free Microsoft Excel Viewer. For other reports you will need Microsoft Word or the free Viewer for Microsoft Word.
Web Links for Data Related to Community Health AssessmentDue to reduced staff devoted to Community Health Assessment activities, the State Center for Health Statistics has not been able to compile data from other agencies for this 2003 edition of the County Data Book. Here we provide web links for much of the data from external agencies that were included in the data book published in 2002.
For questions related to these or other community assessment data, contact Kathleen Jones-Vessey of the State Center for Health Statistics at (919) 715-9692 or kathleen.jones-vessey@dhhs.nc.gov. Note on RatesThe 1999-2001 age-adjusted rates presented here will not match the age-adjusted rates found in our 2001 Leading Causes of Death report. Population estimates are periodically modified based on the best available information. Changes in the population estimates by age are responsible for differences in the age-adjusted rates presented across some of our publications. The 2002 and 1999 County Health Data Books are also available. Page last updated November 06, 2009
